Located inside the Hôtel des Invalides created by Louis XIV to welcome war veterans and wounded, Le Musée de l'Armée was inaugurated in 1905. It is intended to pay tribute to the French soldiers but also to trace the " Evolution and the role of the French Army throughout the world.
As early as 1811, the Imperial Artillery Museum was created to preserve the royal collections of arms and armor that had been confiscated during the Revolution. In 1871, the museum was transferred to the Invalides. In 1896, an historic Musée de l'Armée was born also at the Invalides, these two museums then merged naturally in 1905 to create Le Musée de l'Armée that we know today.
