La Ferme d'Hotte - Musée du Cidre
Why a museum of cider in Champagne ?
At the beginning of the 19th century there were about 300 cider presses. This trend was reinforced by the arrival of the Phylloxera, which destroyed all the Champagne vineyards. Unfortunately rural exodus and agricultural mechanization have put an end to production by the uprooting of orchards in the sixties. Thus, all this cidricultural heritage disappears, many are the presses that end up in smoke ...
With a lot of old equipment on the farm, and for the sake of preserving the gastronomic heritage, we decided to open a museum on the Pays d'Othe cider. In this museum of an exceptional character, three centuries of history are traced and testify to the important activity that cider once represented.
