Les Abattoirs

Les Abattoirs Toulouse

The modern and contemporary art center of the Abattoirs has invested, after restoration in 2000, the old industrial site where butchers and chewers worked for 156 years.

Inaugurated in 2000, on the initiative of the Toulouse City Council, the Midi-Pyrenees Region and the Ministry of Culture, the Abattoirs - Frac Midi-Pyrenees site has the former slaughterhouses of Toulouse, located in the Saint-Cyprien district . The mission of the institution is the promotion, dissemination and patrimonialization of modern and contemporary art. It also supports contemporary creation.

In 1823, the city of Toulouse decided to regroup its different slaughterhouses on a single site. On December 2, 1991, a mixed union was formed between the city of Toulouse and the Midi-Pyrénées region whose aim was to create a modern and contemporary art space on this site.
