Opéra Garnier
Built in 1861 by Charles Garnier at the request of the Emperor Napoleon III, the Opéra Garnier was finally inaugurated in 1875 under the Third Republic. Bold architecture and rich, eclectic decoration make this opera a fascinating masterpiece. The building houses an impressive auditorium, the ceiling of which was painted by Chagall in 1964. A monumental central staircase and numerous scattered fires complete this exceptional ensemble.
The Opera Garnier offers free and guided tours allowing the public to discover or rediscover this mythical place of the Haussmanian Paris.
