Jardin de Bois Richeux

La Ferme de Bois Richeux is one of the oldest farms in France. Established since Celtic times in the heart of the Forest of the Carnutes, it had an exceptional history in the 12th century before belonging to Madame de Maintenon and Louis XIV.

Its medieval garden, recreated from an archive description of the 13th century, is an intimate courtility ordered in front of the Manor.

Recreated in 1996 after a description of a few lines in the Cartulary of Our Lady of Chartres, the enclosed garden of Bois Richeux, mentioned throughout the Middle Ages, still appears in deeds of purchase by Madame de Maintenon in 1679 It was rebuilt on the very site where it existed, to pay tribute to a high place of peasant freedom and medieval genius. It is a simple and simple interpretation of the medieval tradition.
