Grotte de Lascaux

Grotte de lascaux

The Cave of Lascaux is a prehistoric cave discovered in 1940 by 4 teenagers in Montignac in the Dordogne in the valley of the Vézère.

As early as 1948, the site was open to the public. Unfortunately, its intensive tourist exploitation causes irreversible deterioration and the site must close in 1963. In 1983, a fac simile, Lascaux 2 is open to the public. In 2016, the international center of parietal art, Lascaux 4, was inaugurated.

The International Center of Parietal Art reproduces in its entirety and identically, the original Lascaux Cave. The visit of Lascaux 4 makes it possible to discover the prehistory and the parietal art in the Dordogne in the cradle of Cro-Magnon, the Vallée de la Vézère.
