Château des Ormes

The Château des Ormes is an architectural gem built in 1643 by the brothers Pussort, uncles of Colbert; It was bought in 1739 by the Count Marc Pierre of Voyer d'Argenson, Minister of the war of louis XV. He was the friend and protector of the Enlightenment philosophers.

In order to receive them, he built the north wing of the Castle; To thank him, Denis Diderot and Jean le Rond d'Alembert dedicated the Encyclopedia to him; A friend of Voltaire, he stayed at the Chateau as well as the other philosophers, Marmontel, Fontenelle, President Hénault, the philosopher monk Don Deschamps but also the future King Charles X of France.

Visitors can immerse themselves in the 18th century by visiting the interconnected lounges with their sumptuous woodwork and chandeliers in period crystals, the dining room whose walls are lined with marble ...

Timetables

The castle is open to the public from June 1st to September 30th, every day except Tuesdays from 2pm to 6pm.

It is open every other day of the year by appointment. For groups from 10 people a snack can be served for those who solicit it.
