Château de la Mercerie

It is in the commune of Magnac-Lavalette Villars, 20 km from Angoulême, that the castle of La Mercerie, "Petit Versailles des Charentes" rises on the hillside.

Its dazzling white-stone facade extends 220 meters in length, in the middle of a green 50 ha; Some rare and remarkable trees enhance the walk through the park.

The history of this magnificent residence begins in 1924, in the heart of a small 19th century manor: the troubadour castle of La Mercerie was acquired by Alphonse and Raymond Réthoré. At the death of the two brothers, the castle fell into oblivion, paintings, statues and other wonders are in danger, until the mobilization of the inhabitants of the commune, who decide to found an association for the preservation of this unique and prestigious heritage.
