Château de la Gadelière

Château de la Gadelière

Allied to the kingdom of France, on the natural border between the Duchy of Normandy and Thimerais, this stronghold defended the village of la Gadelière during the Hundred Years War.

Formerly there were ditches filled with the debris of a drawbridge tower that controlled the entrance to a square. There are remains of the pile on which the drawbridge rests. Very strong buttresses consolidate the stronghold. His dungeon included only one murderess at his creation. The bays were pierced later, around 1870, for the needs of the dwelling. Of a Romanesque nave modified in the sixteenth century, the church has a certain architectural interest. It also has rich and varied furnishings of different eras.

You will be able to admire the last house of the village sheltering the banal oven and dating from the 12th century.
