Château de Chateaudun

Chateau de Chateaudun

A large princely residence of the 12th, 15th and 16th centuries which was owned by Jehan de Dunois, the companion of Joan of Arc.

The castle of Chateaudun, located south of the department of Eure-et-Loir, is often referred to as the first of the Loire castles for the visitor coming from Paris. Spectacular in size, overlooking the Loir River more than 60 meters away, the château features a rare succession of medieval, Gothic and Renaissance elements, including 2 staircases with loggias overlooking the courtyard. The interior is beautifully preserved and has a large collection of tapestries. The Sainte-Chapelle Gothique, built by Dunois, houses a remarkable statuary.

At the foot of the imposing dungeon, a medieval garden was recently designed on the theme of cooking and medicine in the Middle Ages.
