Located 25 minutes from Bayeux, Balleroy Castle was built in 1631 by the architect François Mansart.

In 1970, Malcolm S. Forbes, owner of an American press group, acquires the castle of Balleroy which was then completely restored and refurnished.

Created on the initiative of Malcolm S. Forbes in 1975, this museum, located in a dependence of the castle, traces the history of the balloon. An internationally renowned pilot and owner of an American press group, Forbes was the first to successfully cross the United States from East to West with a hot air balloon.
