Le Beffroi de Calais

Beffroi de Calais

It was in 1911 that the project of the architect Louis DEBROUWER was chosen for the construction of the new Town Hall. Inaugurated in 1925, the belfry represents the reflection of the evolution of architecture which marries with much happiness the Flemish style and the Renaissance style.

A 75 meters high belfry symbolizes the birth of the great Calais with a summit endowed with a multitude of bells and covered with slates.

In 2010, An ambitious restoration program, worthy of its classification as a World Heritage of Humanity (July 15, 2005), was realized for a public accessibility to the walkway.
