Abbaye de Trizay, jardins de Compostelle
This priory, dedicated to St John the Evangelist, was founded at the end of the 11th c and depended on the powerful Chaise-Dieu abbey in Auvergne. Restaured in the 90s, it is one of the most enigmatic monuments of the Saintonge. The church, of which the bedside remains, is conceived on an exceptional octogonal plan. Also worth is the chapter house with its multi-arched arches and beautoful 13th c windows, the vast refectory with its murals and, on the floor, the dormities of the monks adorned with frescoes, the contemporary stained glass windows by Richard Texier and Kim En Joong priest.
