Abbaye de Tamié
The Abbey de Tamié was founded in 1132 in a magnificent mountain setting : at the top of a pass of the Bauges massif. The monastic presence never ceased, except for a brief period of about 70 years at the time of the French Revolution.
The monks (25 in 2015) live there according to the Cistercian tradition, so they belong to the great Benedictine family. They lead a community life punctuated by the meditation of Scripture, work (a cheese dairy meets the needs of the brothers), liturgy in common in an atmosphere of silence and simplicity. The community hosts in a hostelry people who want to share a moment of silence and inner research for stays of a few days.
