Après la fin. Cartes pour un autre avenir
Exposition After the End. Maps for Another Future
Curated by Manuel Borja-Villel, the exhibition brings together the works of 40 international artists and seeks to rethink the Western narrative rooted in a colonial system through new and ancestral, popular and modern narratives. Emphasizing the importance of communities, the exhibition is organized around reflections that question the diaspora and the limits of the intelligibility of modernity in order to imagine other worlds beyond the end of time, beyond our own time.
The exhibition "After the End. Maps for Another Future" is not organized by themes or styles. It is conceived as a constellation of gestures and situations that connect to each other. It is not about representing the other but on the contrary, about creating a community, a shared knowledge. It is not about dividing but about being aware of the border condition of our time. It is not about nations or regions, but about movements. In this case between the Caribbean and the Mediterranean, two regions linked since the beginning of globalization but whose relations are rarely explored. It is about “longue durée”, about the awareness that the process of colonization that began in the 16th century continues today and that many of our wars are rooted in colonialism. It is also about the desire for hope.
Many of the artists presented are from or linked to regions of the world such as the Caribbean and the Mediterranean. Committed to questions of gender and belonging, they invite us to expand and enrich our understanding of the world. They experiment with practices as well as situations that question spirituality, politics, community, creating a different relationship to time and space. Several works have been imagined by the artists for the exhibition and will be presented in an unprecedented way on this occasion.
