La Chartreuse de Neuville
The Chartreuse de Neuville is one of the largest monasteries of the Order of Chartreux in France. It occupies 20 000m ² of building within an enclosed park of 12 ha. It was built in 1324, partly destroyed during the revolution, and rebuilt in 1870.
Its plan is typical of the Carthusian architecture: a space for the cenobite brothers, the court of honor, a space for the hermit fathers, 24 hermitages around the Great Cloister, and communal buildings between the 2, Refectory, library.
The guided tour of the monastery allows us to understand intimately the peculiarities of monastic life in the Carthusians. There is a shop where you can find souvenirs, books, regional or typical products, as well as organic products from the gardens of the Chartreuse.
